What is a PCR Test?

A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is performed to detect viral RNA by taking a throat and nasal swab. It is the most accurate test for diagnosing COVID-19. The test detects the presence of the virus if you are currently infected. The test could also detect fragments of the virus even after you are no longer infected.

What is an Antigen Test?

The rapid antigen test is a nasal swab test which works by mixing the sample taken, with a solution that unleashes specific viral proteins.

This combination is then applied to a paper strip that contains a bespoke antibody optimised to bind these proteins if they are present.

The test results are received in minutes, detecting if you are currently infected.

What is an Antibody Test?

An antibody test will check for antibodies in your blood.

Your body makes antibodies when you get an infection and they help you to fight the infection.

If you have COVID-19 antibodies in your blood, it is likely that you have had the virus before. A blood sample is taken for this test and the results are received in minutes.
