Available measurements depend on the Tanita monitor and your individual assessment. Your report brings the relevant values together in one place.
Estimate how much of your overall weight is body fat, shown as both a percentage and a mass.
Review an estimate of deeper abdominal fat around the organs, which weight and appearance cannot show.
Understand estimated muscle mass rather than assuming every change on the scale is fat gain or loss.
Compare estimated muscle and fat distribution across the arms, legs and trunk where supported by the monitor.
See an estimate of the proportion of your body made up of water and recognise why hydration affects the result.
Review calculated basal metabolic rate, metabolic age and estimated bone mass alongside the wider report.
Losing fat and gaining muscle may produce little movement on an ordinary scale. Body-composition analysis helps separate those estimates, giving you a more useful baseline for health, training or weight-management goals.
It is still an estimate, not a diagnosis. The strongest use is consistent monitoring over time rather than treating one scan as a definitive judgement of health.
Important: estimated bone mass is not a bone-density test, and visceral-fat rating is not an abdominal scan.
The measurement itself is brief. Good preparation and consistent follow-up conditions make the results more useful.
Follow the instructions provided before your appointment so food, exercise and hydration have less effect on the reading.
Remove shoes and socks, enter the required details and stand still while the Tanita monitor takes the measurement.
Your results are organised into a detailed report explaining the measurements that are relevant to your scan.
Repeat under similar conditions when appropriate so the comparison is more meaningful than a single reading.
Hydration and recent activity can shift BIA estimates. Follow the instructions Jace sends with your booking and tell the team about any medical implant or pregnancy before the assessment.
Avoid arriving severely dehydrated or immediately after drinking a large volume.
Allow your body to recover before the measurement.
Follow the timing advice supplied with your appointment.
Shoes and socks must be removed for electrode contact.
Do not undergo BIA with a pacemaker or implanted electronic medical device. Contact Jace before booking if you are pregnant or unsure whether the assessment is suitable.
The assessment can stand alone or provide an additional baseline alongside a wider health, fitness or weight-management plan.
See whether progress is more consistent with changes in estimated fat, muscle or body water—not simply total weight.
Monitor muscle distribution and body-composition trends alongside a training or nutrition programme.
Build a broader snapshot of your current composition before making planned lifestyle changes.
Keep muscle mass and fat distribution visible as strength, mobility and long-term health become priorities.

Body-composition trends can add context to a clinician-led programme by helping distinguish estimated fat, muscle and water changes.
How the technology works, what affects a reading and when the assessment is not suitable.
A snapshot, not a verdict
Use one scan as a baseline and consistent repeat scans to understand trends.
It uses bioelectrical impedance analysis, or BIA. A very small electrical signal passes through the body via the monitor’s electrodes. Because body tissues conduct that signal differently, the device uses the measured impedance together with your details to estimate body fat, muscle, body water and other values.
